Symbicort Turbohaler is an inhaled treatment used for asthma where clinically appropriate. It contains Budesonide and formoterol fumarate; strength depends on the prescribed product.
Symbicort combines an inhaled corticosteroid with formoterol. Depending on the strength and prescribed plan it may be used as maintenance therapy, maintenance and reliever therapy, or as-needed anti-inflammatory reliever therapy in suitable patients.
Suitability depends on your symptoms, medical history, current medicines, allergies, previous treatment and pregnancy or breastfeeding considerations where relevant.
How to use
Use Symbicort Turbohaler exactly as directed by your pharmacist, prescriber or the patient information leaflet supplied with the product.
The treatment schedule for asthma is: Regimen dependent. Do not change the dose, frequency or duration unless advised by a clinician.
Use the exact inhaler device and strength prescribed and check your inhaler technique. If the inhaler contains a corticosteroid, rinse the mouth with water after the maintenance dose and spit it out.
The exact directions must match the established asthma plan. For Symbicort 200/6 MART, more than 8 inhalations daily is not normally needed and should trigger clinical reassessment.
If symptoms of asthma worsen, do not respond as expected or you develop a serious reaction, stop and seek appropriate clinical advice.

This service is not for a new asthma diagnosis or an acute asthma attack. Severe breathlessness, difficulty speaking, exhaustion, drowsiness or inadequate response to reliever treatment requires urgent medical help.
Stop treatment and seek urgent medical help for difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips or tongue, collapse or another severe allergic reaction.
