Rhinolast Nasal Spray

Use Rhinolast exactly as directed by your pharmacist, prescriber or the patient information leaflet supplied with your medicine.

Rhinolast is used in the nose only. The usual dose for adults and children aged 6 years and over is one spray into each nostril in the morning and one spray into each nostril in the evening, where suitable.

Blow your nose before using the spray. Remove the protective cap. Before the first use, press the pump several times until an even spray appears.

Keep your head upright when using Rhinolast. Do not tilt your head backwards, as this can increase the chance of an unpleasant bitter taste. Spray once into each nostril as directed, then wipe the pump nozzle and replace the protective cap.

Do not use more than directed. If symptoms do not improve, worsen, or you need treatment for longer than expected, seek further clinical advice.

Rhinolast should not be used in children under 6 years old unless specifically advised by an appropriate clinician.

Rhinolast Nasal Spray contains azelastine hydrochloride as the active ingredient.

Each spray provides 140 micrograms of azelastine hydrochloride.

The other ingredients are hypromellose, disodium edetate, citric acid, disodium phosphate dodecahydrate, sodium chloride and purified water.

Always read the patient information leaflet supplied with your specific medicine, especially if you have allergies or have reacted to nasal sprays before.

Some people experience side effects while using Rhinolast. Common side effects can include an unpleasant bitter taste in the mouth, especially if the head is tilted backwards during use. In rare cases, this unpleasant taste may make you feel sick.

Uncommon side effects can include mild irritation inside the nose, such as stinging, itching, sneezing or nosebleeds.

Very rare side effects can include hypersensitivity reactions such as rash, itching or hives.

Stop using Rhinolast and seek urgent medical advice if you develop signs of a serious allergic reaction, such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, difficulty breathing, severe rash, fainting or collapse.

Rhinolast is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it if you are allergic to azelastine hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients in the spray.

Extra clinical review may be needed if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, breastfeeding, have frequent nosebleeds, nasal sores, nasal infection, recent nasal surgery, nasal injury, severe or unusual nasal symptoms, or symptoms that may not be caused by allergic rhinitis.

Tell your clinician about all medicines you take, including prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, supplements and herbal products. Although Rhinolast is not known to be affected by many medicines, your full medication history should still be reviewed before supply.

If you experience nosebleeds, worsening irritation, persistent symptoms, breathing problems, facial pain, fever, thick coloured nasal discharge or symptoms that are unusual for you, seek medical advice.
