Regaine (Minoxidil)

Regaine should be used exactly as directed in the patient information leaflet or as advised by a pharmacist or clinician. It is for external use only and should only be applied to a normal, healthy scalp.

Apply Regaine to clean, dry scalp skin in the area of hair thinning. Wash your hands thoroughly after application and avoid contact with the eyes, mouth, broken skin and sensitive areas. If the product accidentally gets into these areas, rinse well with plenty of cool water.

Regaine usually needs to be used consistently over several weeks before any visible change is seen. Hair growth is a gradual process, and any new hair may initially appear soft, fine or lighter before becoming more noticeable over time. Continued use is usually needed to maintain any benefit.

Do not use more than directed. Applying extra Regaine will not make hair grow faster or thicker and may increase the risk of side effects. If too much is used, or if Regaine is swallowed accidentally, seek medical advice promptly and take the product packaging with you where possible.

You can usually continue your normal hair care routine, including styling, shampooing or colouring your hair. Apply Regaine to the dry scalp before using styling products. If you are having your hair dyed or treated, tell your hairdresser that you are using Regaine so they can avoid unnecessary scalp irritation or pulling on fragile new hair.

Some people may experience side effects while using Regaine. These can include headache, scalp itching, dermatitis, dryness, redness, flaking, irritation, unwanted hair growth away from the scalp, nausea, eye irritation, acne-like rash, changes in hair texture or changes in hair colour. Temporary increased shedding can occur during the first few weeks of treatment as the hair growth cycle changes.

Stop using Regaine and seek medical advice if you experience chest pain, fast heartbeat, dizziness, faintness, low blood pressure symptoms, swelling of the hands or feet, shortness of breath, sudden unexplained weight gain, persistent scalp redness or irritation, or signs of an allergic reaction such as swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat.

Regaine is not suitable for everyone. It should not be used if your hair loss is sudden, patchy, unexplained, caused by medicine, linked with scalp disease, or if your scalp is inflamed, infected, sunburnt, broken or affected by conditions such as psoriasis. It may also be unsuitable if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, circulation problems or are using certain scalp treatments.

Regaine Foam and Solution are flammable. Keep the product away from flames, smoking, heat, hot surfaces and ignition sources. Allow the product to dry before going near fire or heat sources.

Treatment suitability depends on your hair loss pattern, age, scalp health, medical history, current medicines and clinical assessment. Medicine is supplied only where clinically appropriate.
