Phenoxymethylpenicillin 500mg Tablets is a treatment used for sore throat & tonsillitis where clinically appropriate. It contains Phenoxymethylpenicillin.
Phenoxymethylpenicillin is the first-choice oral antibiotic in NICE guidance for acute sore throat when antibiotic treatment is clinically indicated. NICE lists 500 mg four times daily or 1,000 mg twice daily for 5 to 10 days in adults.

How to use

The treatment schedule for sore throat & tonsillitis is: Four times daily or twice daily. Do not change the dose, frequency or duration unless advised by a clinician.
Swallow the medicine with water at the times directed. If a dose is missed, follow the patient leaflet and do not double the next dose unless specifically instructed.
A 5-day course may be sufficient for symptomatic cure, while 10 days may improve microbiological cure. Requires review of penicillin allergy, illness severity and risk of complications.
If symptoms of sore throat & tonsillitis worsen, do not respond as expected or you develop a serious reaction, stop and seek appropriate clinical advice.
