Nystatin Oral Suspension Drops

• Use Nystatin Oral Suspension exactly as directed by your pharmacist, prescriber or the patient information leaflet supplied with your medicine.

  Shake the bottle well before each use. Measure the dose carefully using the oral syringe or measuring device supplied.

  For mouth or throat thrush, place the suspension in the mouth and keep it in contact with the affected areas for as long as possible before swallowing. Do not swallow it too quickly, as contact time helps the medicine work at the site of infection.

  The usual adult and child dose is often 1ml into the mouth four times daily, where suitable. Your clinician will confirm the correct dose and duration for you.

  Treatment is usually continued for a short period after symptoms improve to help clear the infection fully and reduce the chance of relapse. Do not stop early unless advised.

  If symptoms worsen, do not improve, keep returning, or persist beyond 14 days of treatment, seek further clinical advice.

• • Nystatin Oral Suspension contains nystatin as the active ingredient.

    Each 1ml contains 100,000 units of nystatin.

    Other ingredients may include ethanol, flavours, glycerine, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, sodium phosphate, sucrose, purified water and pH adjusters such as hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide.

    Some formulations may contain flavourings such as cherry flavour, cinnamic aldehyde or peppermint oil.

    This medicine may contain sucrose, ethanol and parahydroxybenzoates. If you have diabetes, alcohol sensitivity, intolerance to some sugars or previous allergy to preservatives, this should be reviewed before supply.

Some people may experience side effects while using Nystatin Oral Suspension. Possible side effects can include nausea, stomach upset, sickness, diarrhoea, bloating, stomach cramps or indigestion.

Rare side effects can include rash, itching or hives. Stop using the medicine and seek medical advice if you develop irritation, sensitivity, worsening symptoms or signs of an allergic reaction.

Seek urgent medical help if you develop swelling of the lips, tongue, face or throat, breathing difficulty, severe rash, blistering of the skin, mouth, eyes or genitals, fainting or collapse.

Nystatin Oral Suspension is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it if you are allergic to nystatin or any ingredient in the product.

Nystatin Oral Suspension should not be used for fungal infections affecting the lungs, skin or whole body. It is intended for suitable fungal infections of the mouth, throat or gut.

Extra clinical review may be needed if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, immunocompromised, diabetic, using inhaled steroids, taking antibiotics, have dentures, have recurrent oral thrush, have swallowing difficulty, have symptoms spreading beyond the mouth, or have unexplained mouth ulcers or bleeding.
