Clarithromycin is an alternative first-choice antibiotic in NICE guidance for adults with penicillin allergy or intolerance who are not pregnant. NICE lists 250 mg to 500 mg twice daily for 5 days.

How to use
Use Clarithromycin 500mg Tablets exactly as directed by your pharmacist, prescriber or the patient information leaflet supplied with the product.
The treatment schedule for sore throat & tonsillitis is: Twice daily. Do not change the dose, frequency or duration unless advised by a clinician.
Swallow the medicine with water at the times directed. If a dose is missed, follow the patient leaflet and do not double the next dose unless specifically instructed.
Requires review of interacting medicines, cardiac rhythm risk, liver and kidney function where relevant and pregnancy status. Erythromycin is preferred by NICE when a macrolide is needed in pregnancy.
