Canesten 1% Cream is a topical treatment used for fungal skin infections where clinically appropriate. It contains Clotrimazole 1%.
Clotrimazole is an imidazole antifungal used for athlete’s foot, ringworm and other susceptible fungal skin infections. It is normally applied 2 to 3 times daily. NHS guidance advises treatment for at least 2 weeks and for up to 4 weeks if needed.
Suitability depends on your symptoms, medical history, current medicines, allergies, previous treatment and pregnancy or breastfeeding considerations where relevant.
How to use
Use Canesten 1% Cream exactly as directed by your pharmacist, prescriber or the patient information leaflet supplied with the product.
The treatment schedule for fungal skin infections is: Two or three times daily. Do not change the dose, frequency or duration unless advised by a clinician.
Apply a thin layer to the affected area as directed. Wash your hands after application unless the hands are the area being treated, and avoid the eyes, mouth and other mucous membranes unless the product is specifically intended for them.
Apply thinly and evenly to clean, dry affected skin. Standard skin cream should not be relied on for scalp or fungal nail infection. Seek review if symptoms worsen or fail to improve despite correct treatment.
If symptoms of fungal skin infections worsen, do not respond as expected or you develop a serious reaction, stop and seek appropriate clinical advice.
